I drive alongside the river each day on my way home from work and could see on Friday that the level was very high. I had photographed the frozen river back in January and now seemed like a good opportunity to see it in a different guise.

The dinosaur tracks are worth a visit in themselves but their location coincides with a narrowing of the rivers course in conjunction with some shallow rock ledges. In high water these create some fantastic standing waves that attract kayakers from near and far.

I was surprised to find only one kayaker in the water, although to be fair it was a pretty raw day and the water temperature could not have been far off freezing.

I'd like to thank Greg once more for allowing me to photograph his skillful adventure on the river. I did a little sea-kayaking back in the 70's but never attempted anything like this. He made it look so effortless and easy, but I know different.

To wrap the day up I took another look, and a couple of pictures, of some dinosaur footprints. 190 million years ago dinosaurs roamed this spot leaving footprints in the mud. That their tracks are evident today is just incredible. I wonder what legacy man will leave to be wondered at 190 million years from now?
