Frozen Chicopee Falls and Connecticut River
The forecast had dangerous wind chills for both the White Mountains and locally this weekend so erring on the side of safety I decided to forgo any long hike. Come Sunday and with blue skies and sunshine though I had to get some fresh air.

I swung by and picked up Karen and she came with me to make sure I didn't fall in the river as I took pictures of the frozen falls at Chicopee and South Hadley.

Down by the riverside was thankfully quite sheltered and we worked up quite a glow acting like kids and throwing rocks at the frozen surface of the Connecticut River below South Hadley Falls.

The falls at both Chicopee on the Chicopee river and South Hadley on the Connecticut river are both man made structures designed to control river flow. However, their appeal is enhanced by the ice build up caused by the recent frigid temperatures. It hasn't got above freezing for a while now and we have had temps down below 0 F on most nights.
