Mount Eisenhower White Mountains New Hampshire |
|
I so wanted to take Friday off to go to the mountains, but work commitments kept me away. So, despite a forecast that said "Cloud early with rain in the afternoon", I took off from home at 3:30am on Saturday.
Unlike my last trip up which started out in rain and ended up a gorgeous day in the mountains, this one started out with a starry sky with just a few clouds hanging around. The drive up was uneventful, thankfully no fog this time, and I made good time. Picked up a parking permit at the Irving in Bretton Woods. A fine place to visit. They open at 6 and have a great range of products plus hot breakfast sandwiches and coffee! Mmmmmmm. Suitably stickered and nourished I set off again for the Edmands Path trailhead. Rather than go up the Base Road and turn back down Mount Clinton Road I stay on 302 aiming to turn left into Mount Clinton Road. Of course I see the turn too late and have to do a quick turnaround. I find the trailhead parking lot and I'm ready to go. Decisions! decisions! It's not raining so do I start out with the lighter fleece or go with the heavier one and keep the other in reserve for later? I go with the heavier fleece and leave the main zip and the pit-zips undone. Boots on, backpack hoisted. Ready to go! Sixty seconds later it's pack off, camera out... No wonder I'm such a slow hiker :) |
